Recycling Drop Off Located at UNI

Location: Located west of Hudson Road, the site is north of the UNI Power Plant on the west side of Panther Parkway
Items accepted:
  • Cardboard
  • Clear glass
  • Newsprint
  • Tin
  • Plastic (#1-7)
  • All containers should be clean and labels removed

In the year 2009 we collected a total of 459, 520 pounds of recyclable material.

        11.85 tons of glass

        31.25 tons of plastic

        170.79 tons of cardboard and paper

Cedar Falls Recycling Center

Location: Corner of East 15th Street and State Street (one block East of Main Street)
Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday: 7:00am until 6:30pm and Saturday: 8:00am until 3:00pm.
Items accepted:
  • Cardboard
  • Newsprint
  • Magazines
  • Tin cans
  • Clear Glass
  • Office Paper
  • Plastics (#1-7)
  • Plastic Grocery Bags
  • All containers should be clean and labels removed
Non-acceptable items:
  • Oil bottles, gas cans, aerosol cans, chemical containers, Styrofoam and colored glass.

Cedar Falls Transfer Station

Location: 1500 block of State Street and East 15th Street
Hours of Operation: Monday through Friday: 7:00am until 6:00pm and Saturday: 8:00am until 3:00pm.
Items accepted:
  • Non-contaminated used engine oil and use oil filters (no charge)
  • Yard waste (nominal fee) Collected only on Mondays
  • Solid waste (nominal fee)

Recycling Containers Located Around Town

Located at: Cedar Falls Fareway store, Wind Grace Retirement community located at 5118 S Main St in Cedar Falls, the UNI drop off located W of Hudson Rd behind the power plant on Panther Parkway, The Cedar Falls Transfer Station at 14th and Main St., The Cedarloo Shopping Center at 4302 University Ave and at Pointe West Apartments located at 1921 W. 18th St.
Hours of Operation: Sunday – Saturday

  • Newsprint
  • Clear glass
  • Plastic coded 1 to 7
  • Tin cans
  • Office paper
  • Cardboard

City Carton Recycling of Cedar Falls

Items accepted:
  • News papers (place in drop off container)
  • Advertising supplements (can stay with newsprint)
  • Card board (boxes with staples, brown paper sacks, cereal boxes)
  • Glass bottles and jars (soda bottles, ketchup bottles, food containers, clean)
  • Office paper (put in paper bags and place in drop off container; includes: computer paper, typing paper, writing paper, file folders, unwanted residential mail, envelopes, photocopy paper)
  • Plastic* bottles and jugs (#1 & #2; includes: shampoo bottles, juice jugs, milk jugs, detergent bottles, bleach jugs, PET containers)
  • Tin cans (cleaned with labels removed)
  • Magazines (only slick or shiny magazines or catalogs)
Non-accepted items:
  • Wax-coated cardboard, feed/seed sacks, pop carriers, anything with food scraps
  • Drinking glasses, window glass, beer bottles, light bulbs, mirrors, crystal, heat resistant ovenware, clay flower pots, ceramic cups and plates, wine & liquor bottles
  • Oil bottles, toys laundry baskets
  • Phone books, anything with glue, cereal boxes
*Plastics: Check the bottom of containers for the recycling logo. Inside the logo is a number identifying the type of plastic.
