RRTTC serves as a research, education and outreach center for the development of economical approaches to solving intractable solid waste problems, providing research and technical assistance on public health concerns as they relate to solid waste concerns.

Student Grant Projects

Help Funding for research & projects.

Since 1995 – 2008 RRTTC has helped sponsored over 22 student projects and gave over $22,700 to help them with their research.

 

These grants include and not limited to:

 

 Illegal dumping
 GIS project with underground storage tanks
 Soft serve ice-cream / bacteria study
 Soil Suitability for septic systems
 Mosquito habitat project using GIS
 Analysis of inspection violations related to bottle redemption
 Testing wells for traces of pesticides, “looking for correlation with nitrate concentrations
 Mosquito larvicide best suited for Black Hawk County environment
 Pamphlets on “Vermin Control”
 Research for Solid Waste Commission on GPS units
 Present a waste tire disposal at a conference
 Joint Projects like: Literature review for Environmental Justice program.  Presented about environmental justice
 Quantified the recycling programs in the Black Hawk County municipalities
