Faculty Sustainability Efforts
An essential role of higher education is to prepare students with the knowledge, skills, and
habits of mind needed to actively engage them in creating a sustainable future. Key players in
achieving this momentous task are the teaching faculty who write course syllabi, develop student
learning outcomes, and sit on curriculum committees. For many faculty, however, sustainability
is a new concept, about which they lack an organized framework, training and
