The UNI wetland is a 25-acre space that serves as a flood control area. With the City of Cedar Falls, UNI partnered to deepen the basin and shaping the creek that goes through the area to create a four-acre pond and other wetlands. It is also an outdoor recreation area that has kayaking, fishing and a walking trail. The Tallgrass Prairie Center at UNI also chose 70 native species of plants to add to the site which help control the capacity for flood retention.
